Meet Trudy! Trudy's foster says she's made of glitter, and once you meet her, you'll understand why. Beneath those enormous Disney eyes and adorable little gremlin face is a tiny survivor who is slowly learning that the world can be a safe place.
Trudy came into rescue carrying a great deal of fear, and she's taking her time learning to trust. While she's still very much on her healing journey, every little milestone feels like a huge victory. The first tail wag, a gentle paw asking for another belly rub, or choosing to stay close to someone she trusts are all moments worth celebrating.
Trudy isn't your typical Velcro dog, and that's part of her charm. She values her personal space and believes affection should be earned. She may quietly curl up nearby, offer you an exaggerated sigh, or if you've truly won her hear…grace you with a brief cuddle before remembering she's an independent little woodland creature. The people she chooses become absolutely smitten with her.
She is sweetest with people she knows and trusts, though she remains shy around strangers and will usually choose to observe from a safe place until she feels comfortable. She would do best with calm, respectful children who understand that building a relationship with a timid dog takes patience and kindness.
Trudy is looking for a quiet home with experienced adopters who understand fearful rescue dogs and will let her progress at her own pace. A calm, confident resident dog would be a wonderful role model for her, and a securely fenced yard is important while she continues to build confidence. Busy city living would likely be overwhelming for her.
She gets along well with other dogs, although she's still learning how to interact and often watches from the sidelines rather than joining in. She has also been cat tested and has shown no signs of reactivity, so she could likely live peacefully with a feline friend.
Right now, Trudy is very low energy as she continues to decompress. She is not yet comfortable walking on leash and will need a patient family committed to helping her build confidence at her own pace.
Like many fearful dogs, Trudy is still working on potty training and learning the routines of home life. She understands her name and is beginning to discover that good things come from trusting her people. With time, consistency, and gentle encouragement, we know she'll continue to blossom.
If you're looking for a dog who will love everyone immediately, Trudy probably isn't your girl. But if you believe the deepest bonds are built through patience, understanding, and celebrating the smallest victories, Trudy just might become the most rewarding companion you've ever had.
