Fidel (Foster-To-Adopt)

Fidel’s Story

Fidel is available for Foster to Adopt!

We'd love to welcome Fidel into the Fetch + Releash family on the next available flight in July. In order to secure a spot on the flight, he needs a committed foster-to-adopt family. As a foster-to-adopt family, you’ll be expected to take him home that same day. You will then have two weeks to get to know your new furry house guest before committing to adoption. At the end of two weeks, if you choose not to move forward with adoption, we simply ask that you continue to provide a safe and loving home until their new forever family can be found.

Each bio was created by our rescue partners based on their interactions with the dogs. Fetch + Releash has a full disclosure policy however we cannot guarantee a dog against parasites or diseases, nor can we guarantee a dog’s nature/behaviour. Many of these dogs are coming directly from the shelter and so you should expect there to be a transitional period. Be prepared to deal with common issues like potty training, leash walking, and socialization. Cat and kid safety assessments are often based on their personality and not necessarily on actual interactions.

Where possible, the majority of vetting will be completed prior to coming to Canada, however, foster-to-adopt families may be required to travel to our partner vet Mississauga, ON for further vet care.

During your foster-to-adopt trial, you’ll receive the support of a Fetch + Releash mentor to help you through the transition and answer any questions or concerns you may have.

Foster-to-adopt families will be required to pay a $200 deposit on the adoption fee and sign our foster-to-adopt waiver in advance. If you choose not to adopt, your $200 will be refunded to you within 30 days of your dog being adopted into a new family provided you see your pup through to adoption. If you choose not to see your dog through to adoption, you will forfeit your deposit.

Foster-to-adopt families will be expected to provide their own supplies. Visit https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info for more info on mandatory supplies.

Fidel / Male / 8 years old / 9 lbs / Chihuahua / From Mexico

Introducing Fidel, a pint-sized explorer with a giant heart. He was found alongside his scruffy friend Pelusa in a rough part of town. Thankfully, a kind local woman took them in and contacted our rescue partner for help. At the time, Fidel was skinny, smelly, and in need of care, but his sparkle was undeniable.

Fidel is what we like to call a lover of life, explorer of lands, and boss of all. He’s equal parts cuddler and adventurer, always ready to give tiny kisses or sprint into playtime. One of his biggest loves? Water! Fidel would be thrilled to join a family that enjoys swimming or beach days, just don’t forget the towel!

Fidel is on the higher end of medium energy and will need atleast two walks daily as well as some canine enrichment. Having never had a home, his new family should be prepared to support him with crate training, leash walking, and general manners.

Fidel was briefly cat-tested and seemed a little nervous but not reactive. While he hasn't been tested with children, based on his gentle nature, we believe he would do well with respectful, dog-savvy children. His family should be prepared to supervise all interactions to ensure everyone's safety. While he would do well as a solo pup, we think he'd make an excellent second (or third) doggie as well.

Prior to coming into care, Fidel tested positive for Ehrlichia, which is a tick-borne infection and is not contagious. He will have completed treatment prior to his arrival in Canada and a CBC will be performed to confirm there is no active infection. It is recommended that Ehrlichia positive dogs get an annual blood test to monitor and that pre-op blood work (including a CBC test and platelet count) be performed before any surgeries or dental extractions.
