Meet Dekin! Dekin came to us from Hamilton Animal Services where he was found as a stray. Dekin’s fosters describe him as friendly, curious and playful! Toys, cuddles and playing fetch are his favourite activities!

Dekin loves people and greets everyone with tail wags and kisses. Whether he already knows you, or is meeting you for the first time, he sees you as his best friend! Dekin prefers to be around his humans at home, and will stay close by whether it is to lay at your feet while you work, or cuddle on the couch. Dekin has also had the opportunity to meet children aged 7 and 11 and did really well. We think with proper introductions he would do well in a home with respectful, dog savvy children.

Dekin is very adaptable and is happy as long as he is with his people. This makes him a good candidate for any type of home. He is not happy to be alone, so a home where there are people around is best. He is active and loves to play so a yard, or access to greenspace will be important. So far Dekin has not shown signs of being bothered by loud noises, or city life.

Dekin has not had the opportunity to meet other dogs, or cats, in our care, but given his demeanor we think he would do well with other animals. On walks he barely notices other dogs and does not show signs of a prey drive. Dekin would be a good candidate as a solo pet, or in a home with another calm, friendly companion.

Dekin is a curious and playful guy who loves to explore and engage in toys.. He gets 2-3 30 minute walks per day as well as play time and mental stimulation. Fetch is one his favourite games and he will play as long as you will let him and then cuddle with you after. He also enjoys lick mats and puzzles to keep him busy indoors. On leash, Dekin has great manners and is happy to walk and sniff wherever you lead him!

As a lover of toys and treats, Dekin is a quick learner. He currently knows sit, and is working on his recall. He is potty trained and can be trusted in the home, although he may steal the odd sock if he can find one. Dekin is not crate trained and is not happy to be left alone. He gets anxious and vocal if he sees someone leave. His fosters are currently working with him on his separation anxiety and his new family should be prepared to continue this. Dekin is also not a fan of car rides, but is gradually improving and will settle after sometime.
