Briar’s Story
Briar / Female / 3 months / 12 lbs / Husky Mix / Good with Dogs / Good with Children /Good with Cats / From Manitoba / Fostered in Toronto
Meet Briar!
Briar is a little miracle. She wandered out of the forests of Northern Manitoba as a sweet, affectionate puppy, and after a bath and a week to settle into foster care, she's thriving. Now this little angel is looking for the perfect family to grow up with.
We don’t like to throw around words like "perfect" lightly here, but Briar has been described by her foster caretaker as the perfect puppy. She’s adorable, which is typical for puppies her age, but she’s also smart.
She's already mastered potty training and learned to sit on command. She knows when it's time to play with the other dogs, when to simply walk by, and that the cat is off-limits. She may have swiped a snack from the table once, but after being corrected, she hasn't tried it again.
Crate training is going well, too. Briar usually settles after a few minutes and sleeps through the night, only giving a few gentle morning whines when she needs to go outside.
She’s playful, confident, and adventurous. She loves to explore, but she won’t go too far without first checking in with her handler. She walks nicely without pulling too far ahead. Like any 3-month-old puppy, everything is new to Briar. She sometimes takes a moment to figure things out, but with a little encouragement (and maybe a few treats), she tackles each new challenge with confidence.
Even though Briar might be the perfect pup, that doesn’t mean she’ll be perfect for you. As a suspected Husky/Shepherd mix, Briar is likely to grow into a large, energetic dog. She'll thrive with an active family that's committed to giving her plenty of daily exercise and mental stimulation, whether that's a fenced yard or regular adventures.
Of course, a Husky/Shepherd mix also means plenty of fluff. When the seasons change, expect enough shedding to knit another puppy. Regular brushing will be your friend, with the occasional grooming appointment helping to keep things under control.
As far as we’re concerned, it doesn’t get any better than Briar. She has all the makings of an incredible lifelong companion: smart, affectionate, adventurous, and eager to learn. If your family is ready to welcome a lovable puppy and all the fun that comes with raising one, Briar is waiting to meet you.
As a condition of the adoption contract, Briar’s new family will be required to:
- Ensure she has an opportunity to go outside every 2-3 hours. If you work full time, this means hiring a dog walker to come in 2x per day for a puppy visit
- Attend and complete a basic obedience class at your own cost (proof required).
- Provide plenty of socialization opportunities – both dog and human – it's important at this stage.
- Spay/neuter within 6 months of adoption. If done at our partner vet in Mississauga, the spay/neuter will be included in the adoption fee. If you choose to do it elsewhere, it will be done at your own cost. Proof of neuter is required to finalize the adoption.
