As a foster-to-adopt family, you will have two weeks to get to know your new furry house guest before committing to adoption. At the end of two weeks, if you choose not to move forward with adoption, we simply ask that you continue to provide a safe and loving home until their new forever family can be found.

During your foster-to-adopt trial, you’ll receive the support of a Fetch + Releash mentor to help you through the transition and answer any questions or concerns you may have.

Foster-to-adopt families will be required to pay a $200 deposit on the adoption fee and sign our foster-to-adopt waiver in advance. If you choose not to adopt, your $200 will be refunded to you within 30 days of your dog being adopted into a new family provided you see your pup through to adoption. If you choose not to see your dog through to adoption, you will forfeit your deposit.

Foster-to-adopt families will be expected to provide their own supplies. Visit https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info for more info on mandatory supplies.

Meet Bandit! This beautiful boy was surrendered to our partner in Tennessee as his family was no longer able to properly care for him. Bandit is an extremely friendly, sweet, playful, and lovable guy. He’s very curious and just loves attention from his humans. He will roll over for belly rubs, and gently headbutt until he feels he’s been given the attention he deserves. He is very generous with his affection and is a big cuddle bug. He also loves walks, chew toys, and is an amazing napper. While he likes to nap hard, he also likes to play hard. The only thing this guy will steal is your heart!

When Bandit is with people he knows, he is sweet and affectionate. Although excitable, he can easily mirror his human’s energy and be relaxed at home. He is immediately trusting of strangers and has met young children. With the children, he allowed them to respectfully approach and pet him. He was even wagging his tail the entire time! This leads us to believe that Bandit would do well in a home with older, dog-savvy children. As Bandit can jump up when he's excited, it is important for his new family to work on proper introductions.

Bandit’s ideal family would be active and live in a home that has space for him to run around with a yard. They should maintain a consistent routine, and be able to give him lots of attention. He would be fine in most settings, although preferably not right downtown.

Bandit currently lives with 2 cats and is working towards being calm around them. He seems interested when they are around, and may try to chase them. The cats, however, have not been as interested and mostly keep to themselves. He may be able to live with dog-savvy cats but would likely need time to adjust and learn to be respectful.

He also loves other dogs and is always very happy to see them. He has met several dogs during his time with his fosters and all interactions have been positive. We believe that he would benefit from being a second dog so that he can learn by example. He would also be happy as the only dog in the house.

Bandit currently gets 3 walks per day: in the morning & evening for approximately 30-45 minutes, and midday around the block for 10 minutes. For mental stimulation, he loves chewing on toys and stuffed animals. It should be noted that he does not chew anything that does not belong to him.

Bandit can be reactive with passing stimuli such as cars, and in busier areas such as intersections he may pull, and needs the leash held tightly. His fosters have been working on this by using engage and disengage activities. He has pulled towards other dogs but continues walking when guided away. It is important to note that Bandit had never been on a leash before coming into our care. Structured walks would benefit him, and can be helpful to build a bond!

Although he lived most of his life outside, he is fully potty-trained! Having never lived in a home, everything inside is new to him. He is still getting used to stairs but is making improvements with his fosters.

He is crate-trained and has been left alone for up to 4 hours during the day. Once he settles, he will lay down in his bed and await his fosters’ return. He also sleeps in his crate at night and he is an excellent sleeper. Bandit has been trusted to be left alone outside his crate while his fosters are gone and he has done really well.

As Bandit ran away from his previous home, he is considered a flight risk and wears a GPS tracker on his collar. His adoptive family will be required to purchase this as part of his adoption agreement.

Bandit has had a couple of fatty growths removed during his time at our partners in Tennessee. All were sent for biopsies and were non-cancerous. He is healthy and lump-free.

Bandit does suffer from hearing loss and only responds to some sounds. He will not wake up unless his fosters physically wake him. They have also vacuumed when he is in his crate napping and he has not woken up at all. What a dream!

Prior to coming into care, Bandit tested positive for Ehrlichia which is a tick-borne infection and is not contagious. A CBC was performed to see if there is an active infection. Bandit's CBC came back indicating that there is no active infection. It is recommended that Ehrlichia positive dogs get an annual blood test to monitor and that pre-op blood work including a CBC test and platelet count be performed before any surgeries or dental extractions.
