Vaquita (Foster-to-Adopt)
Vaquita’s Story
Vaquita is available for Foster to Adopt!
We'd love to welcome Vaquita into the Fetch + Releash family on May 9th. In order to secure a spot on the flight, she needs a committed foster-to-adopt family. As a foster-to-adopt family, you’ll be expected to take her home that same day. You will then have two weeks to get to know your new furry house guest before committing to adoption. At the end of two weeks, if you choose not to move forward with adoption, we simply ask that you continue to provide a safe and loving home until their new forever family can be found.
Each bio was created by our rescue partners based on their interactions with the dogs. Fetch + Releash has a full disclosure policy however we cannot guarantee a dog against parasites or diseases, nor can we guarantee a dog’s nature/behaviour. Many of these dogs are coming directly from the shelter and so you should expect there to be a transitional period. Be prepared to deal with common issues like potty training, leash walking, and socialization. Cat and kid safety assessments are often based on their personality and not necessarily on actual interactions.
Where possible, the majority of vetting will be completed prior to coming to Canada, however, foster-to-adopt families may be required to travel to our partner vet Mississauga, ON for further vet care.
During your foster-to-adopt trial, you’ll receive the support of a Fetch + Releash mentor to help you through the transition and answer any questions or concerns you may have.
Foster-to-adopt families will be required to pay a $200 deposit on the adoption fee and sign our foster-to-adopt waiver in advance. If you choose not to adopt, your $200 will be refunded to you within 30 days of your dog being adopted into a new family provided you see your pup through to adoption. If you choose not to see your dog through to adoption, you will forfeit your deposit.
Foster-to-adopt families will be expected to provide their own supplies. Visit https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info for more info on mandatory supplies.

Vaquita / Female / 3 years old / 28 lbs / Tripod / Terrier Mix / From Mexico
Vaquita (which means “little cow”) is a gentle, mild-mannered terrier who loves being close to her people. She’s a low-key kind of girl who is happiest soaking up belly rubs, being told how pretty she is (and she really is), and settling in for a cozy nap. Whether it’s sunning herself at the cottage or curling up in cow-print jammies, Vaquita is all about the quiet life.
Vaquita came into care after a local rescue group flagged her during a spay/neuter campaign. She had been abandoned when her owners moved, and it was clear she was too timid to safely navigate life on the streets alone. Since then, she has been learning what it means to feel safe.
She is social with other dogs and would do well with a calm canine companion, though it’s not required. While she has not been formally tested with children, her gentle nature suggests she would do well with respectful, dog-savvy kids. She has not been tested with cats and is currently looking for a cat-free home.
Vaquita is still building confidence in a home environment. She is mostly house-trained and continues to work on leash skills and crate training. She will need a patient, understanding family who can support her as she learns the basics and gains confidence at her own pace. Her energy level sits on the lower end of medium, and she thrives with a calm, predictable routine.
Vaquita recently underwent a rear leg amputation on April 1 and is healing well. As a tripod, she is already adapting, but she can tire more quickly and will benefit from a home that can support her with a balanced routine of rest and gentle activity. Vaquita was treated for heartworm last fall, and her most recent SNAP test in March 2026 was negative. She is expected to go on to live a full and healthy life. It is recommended that she be on year-round heartworm prevention medicine.
Vaquita would do best in a quiet home where she can move at her own speed. Busy environments and loud settings will likely be overwhelming for her. With time, patience, and a sense of safety, Vaquita blossoms into an incredibly sweet and loving companion who forms deep, meaningful bonds with her people.
