Lexi’s Story

Lexi is available for Foster to Adopt!!

***Please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form***

As a foster-to-adopt family, you will have two weeks to get to know your new furry house guest before committing to adoption. At the end of two weeks, if you choose not to move forward with adoption, we simply ask that you continue to provide a safe and loving home until their new forever family can be found.

During your foster-to-adopt trial, you’ll receive the support of a Fetch + Releash mentor to help you through the transition and answer any questions or concerns you may have.

Foster-to-adopt families will be required to pay a $200 deposit on the adoption fee and sign our foster-to-adopt waiver in advance. If you choose not to adopt, your $200 will be refunded to you within 30 days of your dog being adopted into a new family provided you see your pup through to adoption. If you choose not to see your dog through to adoption, you will forfeit your deposit.

Foster-to-adopt families will be expected to provide their own supplies. Visit https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info for more info on mandatory supplies.

Meet Lexi! Lexi is a sweet and special dog and is waiting for a forever home to call her own. She is curious and loving and enjoys little toys and all the cuddles from her trusted people. Lexi is much smaller than her photos make her look and is the perfect size for a calm cuddle on the couch.

Patience is key with this girl and Lexi has made great strides in foster care, slowing learning to feel safe in a scary new world. With the support of using her crate as a safe space, Lexi continues to figure out her new surroundings which allows her to come out of her shell and her fosters have seen her cutest little personality. Lexi may let out an “alert bark” when new people come around but she’s happy to stay out of the action and use her crate. After several meetings and some time she may even accepts treats and cuddles. When she’s feeling brave she loves fetch, tug, chewing on Kongs, and treats!

Lexi has recently started to venture into the world and with Spring coming it’s the perfect time for her family to continue with this great progress. Lexi needs some motivation and support from her humans, and sometimes a lift to get out of the door. Lexi is very food motivated which makes her the perfect candidate for training. A backyard in a quiet area would be great for Lexi to build her confidence outdoors and to eventually transition into walks. Lexi’s foster sister has also been a huge support to show her the ropes, and Lexi would likely benefit from a dog sibling. She’d even had a romp around in the yard with her foster sister. Her foster sister often takes the lead and shows Lexi that there’s fun to be had outside. Lexi is also attending a dog training facility to build her confidence. Potty training may take some time in a new environment but once comfortable she will likely pick it up quickly!

Lexi is a homebody and is on her best behaviour indoors. She can be left alone and is not destructive. She settles in her crate easily, as long as the crate is in a quiet part of the house away from windows and doors. As for others in the home? Like we said, a foster sibling would be excellent to show her the ropes but she’d also likely be okay as a solo dog. Lexi hasn’t met cats but would likely be okay due to her passive nature. Lexi was dog-sit by a family with an 11-year-old and 14-year old; she was a little shy but since grew confidence when they respected her space. Lexi could live with older, respectful kids who understand her boundaries.

Lexi has been on anti-anxiety medication to help support her transition to her new environment including zylkene and clomicalm . She is currently being weaned off it and is showing good progress. The cost of her medication is currently under $100 a month but we anticipate that she will be fully off her medication by the end of May. Adopters can consider medication with their vet, as needed.

Lexi is a flight risk and our top priority in her furever home is safety. Her forever family must take precautions to keep her safe and secure, including the purchase of a GPS tracker which will be required for adoption..

Do you have a quiet, calm, home and want a cuddly homebody? Lexi is your girl.
